Chicago
2016 Summer Olympic Games Bid
Raises $9.4 Million
Beijing
London Chicago
Association (Chicago, IL): The "You Can Make It Happen" fund raiser dinner,
on
March
1st 2007, raised $9.4 million for Chicago's 2016 Summer Olympic Games
bid.
Nearly 2,000 people showed up at McCormick Place, Chicago's proposed
Olympic Games venue, raising over three times the money bid insiders
predicted, less than a month ago. This brings the grand total raised, so
far, by the Chicago 2016 Committee, to in excess of $30 million, which
is much more than the United States Olympic Committee(USOC)
requires Chicago to have by March 31, 2007.
In a statement, Patrick Ryan, the Chicago 2016 Bid committee Chairman,
said, "While we have exceeded the minimum the USOC required us to have
at our disposal, we will continue to ask for support as the process
evolves."
Chicago and Los Angeles, the last United States cities vying to host
the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, will make presentations to the United
States
Olympic Committee on April 14, 2007. After Chicago and Los Angeles make
their
presentations, the United States Olympic Committee is expected to decide
which city will compete, internationally, to be the United States' host
city for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games.
The United States Olympic Committee must submit a U.S.
candidate city, if any, to the International Olympic Committee(IOC), by
September 15 of 2007. Two years from now, in 2009, the International
Olympic Committee is
expected to render a final decision, by picking the host city for the
2016 Summer Games, from all remaining, worldwide, candidates. Possible,
worldwide, candidates may include Madrid, New Delhi, Prague, Rio de
Janeiro, Rome, and Tokyo.
In other bid news, the United States Olympic Committee, itself, was busy,
as well, on March 1. Eleven United States Olympic Committee members
toured the City of Los Angeles, by bus, as the committee began the final
inspection process of that city. Next week, United States Olympic
Committee officials arrive in Chicago.
