Yet Another
Chicago 2016 Olympic Swimming Venue
Beijing
London Chicago
Association (Chicago, IL): The Chicago 2016 Olympic
games proposed swimming venue has a history of being a trick question.
In fact, not so long ago it was best to say, "Where is the Chicago 2016
Olympic games proposed swimming venue, today?"
Why? Because, like Windy City weather, if you did not like the Chicago
2016 Olympic games proposed swimming venue, then, if you waited a bit,
it would probably change, again. Some might think we are joking about
the Windy City's proposed swimming venue and its propensity to
change. We are not.
The fact is, the Windy City's 2016 Olympic games swimming venue has
been promised to, at least, three locations we have identified in past
articles. First, in early 2007, as we wrote here,
Chicago Mayor
Richard J. Daley seemed to be promising the Windy City's 2016 Olympic
games
swimming venue to the University of Illinois at Chicago. But, after
what seemed like a short wait, the 2016 Olympic games proposed swimming
venue, like Chicago weather, changed. The University of Illinois at
Chicago had, apparently, fallen out of favor as an Olympic water sports
destination.
Next, as we wrote, here,
Douglas Park was named, and celebrated,
as the Windy City's 2016 Olympic games proposed swimming venue. As you
will
recall, from our previous article on the proposed swimming venue, there
was much made of the fact that Douglas
Park could benefit from the $80 million dollar 2016 Olympic
games swimming venue long after the games are over. The implication
was, and maybe the fact is, the Douglas Park neighborhood is in dire
need of a nice swimming pool. Well, regardless of the level of need, in
the Douglas Park neighborhood, for a nice swimming pool, we, once
again, only needed wait a bit and the Windy City's 2016 Olympic games
proposed swimming venue changed, again.
Next Stop, Washington
Washington Park is the current location proposed as, and the third we
have wrote about, the 2016 Olympic games swimming venue. What
is the reasoning this time?
Doug Arnot, Chicago 2016 Director of Sport and Operations, seems to
think it "... will bring Washington Park alive in the days between the
opening ceremony and track". Not really sure what that means.
Patrick Ryan seems to think the newly changed "... plan provides ... an
even more compelling proposal ..."
The International Olympic Committee is expected to name the 2016
Olympic Summer games host city on October 2.
Let us hope Chicago's proposed 2016 Olympic games swimming venue does
not take a cue from Chicago's weather and change, yet, again.
